Give and you shall recieve

I have now finished half of the postcards for the swap I organized (of course, they were supposed to be mailed by February 1st, but I’m terrible with deadlines.) You can go here to see them up close. It has been absolutely delightful to make them—each piece is mixed media: watercolor fish with vintage stamps, bits of ephemera, acrylics and varnish.
There is something so freeing about creating little pieces of art and sending them off. A part of me falls in love with each piece I create. A part of me wants to hoard them. But I also believe that there is a principle in the universe that says: give abundantly and you shall receive abundantly. So I continue to send my art out into the world. Little pieces carrying the joy of my soul–and in return I find I am continually showered with a profusion of good things. Sudden opportunities, fresh creativity, new friends, and kind accolades keep pouring into my life. I am so grateful.
Thank you to everyone who voted for me in the BOBS! Your friendship, your support, and your kind words satisfy a much deeper part of my being than the actual win does. Though I admit, I’m terribly tickled.

Ford and I were just trying to guess which one is coming to our mailbox. I love them all. They remind me of some work I did the year he was born, I’m a fan of texture and marine life. big time. Back then, we lived along an estuary of San Francisco bay… I’ll treasure my card when it arrives.
ahem, Next time, I’m taking MY time finishing, too
(I’m being silly but also kinda serious, I didn’t like having to ship mine off before they felt ready! hope you like yours (a little marine life is embedded in it, too!)

These are gorgeous, I can’t wait to find a little fish in my mailbox. My postcard should be winging it’s way towards you right now, I just barely got them done before the 1st. A few pictures of mine are up on my blog as well, taking pictures made it easier for me to let go of each of these little creations.

How weird is this–when I go to the BOB site, it doesn’t show your category yet. But, when I click on your link, it comes up. I kept looking back to see how you faired and didn’t know until I read this. Congrats to you!

I was so excited to hear you won the artist category! I’m doing a happy dance for you right. this. very. minute.
I love the fish! They make me think of one of my favorite “painting stories” you did — the one about the fish who live under the ice.

ha, I was just about to send an email out to everyone apologizing for my lateness (just finished mine last monday, the 6th and sent them out that day)… felt so much better reading your post! can’t wait to receive mine in the mail… what little treasures you’ve created! (I resisted the urge to take a closer look as I want to wait and get the full effect)… I know exactly what you mean about these little pieces of art… you work so hard to create each one and then you send them out into the world. it’s a strange feeling, isn’t it? but good too. and oh, how I’ve been enjoying the postcards I’ve been receiving…! such a delight. can’t wait to post them all (including the ones I made) on my blog and flickr page… I’ve had so much fun with this that I’m thinking of organizing a postcard swap myself! who knows?
p.s. congrats on the BOB award! can’t think of anyone who deserves it more! xo
