At the inlaws

Posted on | June 9, 2007 | 8 Comments

Navigating the bizarre, delightful terrain of family. The humidity is something. Bean rides his bike in gleeful circles on the drive. His grandad lets him steer the lawn tractor. His smile is impossibly wide. We eat outside, toasting with bubbly wine and watching the fireflies come out. There is so much about this family that is complicated, but so much that I adore. I have a stack of end-of-year reports to finish, and more fiction to write. Right now I am in desperate need of coffee. And shorts. I don’t own any–except garden work worthy ones. I don’t know how that happened really, except for the fact that I find it impossibly hard to find shorts that fit well. Do you have any favorites?

Happy weekend everyone!

You have hit on one of my biggest clothes shopping issues!! I have two pair that I bought just after my son was born two years ago and they are a size 10 (I am a six now). I wear them when I clean, usually having to hike them back up every 5 steps. I HATE shopping for shorts because they are either too loww waisted and short or just the opposite. I have been wearing wonderful capris I found at New York and Co. – they are lightweight and comfortable. And I live in Savannah, GA where it is 93 right now with 80% humidity, so that says a lot.

I avoid shorts at all costs. My legs are long, and shorts always seem too short – and I am sensitive about my cellulite. I used to have two pairs that I loved from American Eagle…many, many sizes ago.

Good luck with the inlaws. May you be more blessed that I am in that tricksey relationship!

if you like the “not fancy look” I love Columbia shorts they last a long time and they are longer so you can bike and climb in them…very cool..I hope summer greats you well! As a teacher you deserve it!

I’ve avoided shorts for a long time, but then I found these really cute bermuda shorts at Target made of really light material ( I live in Florida, so I need that BADLY)… They carry different brands so you might want to check them out and try a couple on.

Hope you find “the one” like I did :)

I’m one of the ones who avoids shorts too… When I was younger, I loved Duck Heads, a brand that may be unique to the south, but I am not certain!

Are you enjoying this first week of summer? It was so nice to stay up as late as I wanted (I need to enjoy this pre-kids time in my life!) and sleep in, glorious sleeping in… camping this weekend has thrown me out of whack. Congratulations on surviving this hectic school year!

I just bought some capri’s and city shorts (to the knee) at NY company today.

I was in the same position-no shorts that weren’t dirty work ones.

The others I saw in other stores today seemed too short.
