Vermillion
Posted on | January 2, 2008 | 9 Comments
Across the snow, the cardinals dart, the vermillion hearts of winter. The wind pulls the mercury down below zero, and the air bites bare skin. Water is glassy under ice in the chicken coop in the morning, and the sun, when it shines is followed by a sun dog, the sky frosted but blue.

I really have a difficult time in winter. It is always so tortorous to me- the hurried walk/runs from the car to the front door, the way simple things are made complicated by weather- but the beauty of your language makes winter seem miraculous and delicate to me. Remarkable.
p.s. Do you ever sell your art? Over the past two years that I have been reading your sight I have seen some stuff I would love to buy.

What a strong, resonant visual and verbal snapshot! I love the richness of the one moment as you experience it, the many images that come together to create a mood. Happy New Year to you, Christina!

So cold here too. It hurts to breathe! Love the flash of color in an otherwise gray day.

Lovely art and writing. I feel nerdily compelled to point out that those male cardinals are probably really duking it out over territory…but they sure look pretty darting about in their murderous rage! ;->

I love the birds and the window. There’s a great sense of motion there.
