Hibernating

I’ve been curled up under the eaves in my studio on the couch, listening to the rain fall and perusing all the delightful blog links you left in the comments of my last post. Such delight & inspiration. Thank you, thank you for dosing me with your good taste and fabulous finds.
Everyone here is sick with one thing or another. Bean with a double ear infection, DH with a cold, me with a possible sinus infection. We keep passing these germs around like sandwiches, apparently, so we’re all lying low, staying put, and generally eating soup and bread and keeping to ourselves.
Today DH bought a new truck out of necessity and in celebration of a new month. Okay so we’re officially half way through already. Still. October sucked. Long story made short: the day after our friend died, the our plow truck gas tank fell out on the road, followed the next day by our septic backing up. Followed shortly thereafter by 2 of our 3 geese getting eaten by coyotes. Yes. It was a month. Anyway, the truck had irreparable rust damage–it was used to begin with–and so we sold it and bought a new one.
We spent most of the day driving about in the rain through some neighboring towns, stopping for sandwiches at a general store; lattes at a bakery; poking into little toy shops; stopping at a train station; and listening to music low on the stereo. Just the three of us, content to be half sick and with each other in the small circumference of the cab.
What did you spend Saturday doing?

Ahhh Saturday…my favorite day of the week. Since I stayed up way to late cleaning house Friday night, I goofed off today. I took my kids to their 4-H club meeting this morning. My daughter and I perused an inspiring scrapbooking store. I told the kids to watch TV while my DH and I worked on making baby #4 and told them we needed to “take a nap.” After DH went to his part-time job, I tried to take a real nap but my kids constantly wanted to show me their drawings. I gave up and enjoyed a mocha cappacino and read books after that. I took all three kids to Younkers (big mistake)with me where I bought a fluffy new bathmat and feather pillow. I think I will be hibernating tomorrow for the Sabbath.

I spent 4 hours this morning writing in a coffee shop, listening to great songs on satellite radio.
You mentioned listening to Leonard Cohen while you paint.
I love this from “Anthem:”
“Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack in everything
That’s how the light gets in.”

Saturday my 3 3/4 year-old has hockey. If there is anything cuter than a bunch of 3- and 4-year-olds decked out in full hockey regalia slipping all over the ice I haven’t found it yet!

Yesterday was excellent, apart from the rain. I slept in like a crazy woman, then did laundry and grocery shopping and cleaned the fish tank. And then I read and read and read and read. And then Anders made dinner and we all played a game (!) and then he and I stayed up way too late (nudge, wink). Practically perfect in every way!

I started the day at 5:15am feeding Sam spoonfuls of my oatmeal made with real steel cut oats and melted bananas, the gritty texture a new and fascinating experience for an 11-month old. I spent the rest of the day wondering if the fact that he never stopped whining or crying might be because he has an ear infection or if it’s just this new found realization that he can get what he wants by crying and screaming at the top of his lungs. My sweet little angel seemed unusually fussy and easily upset, and I spent my Saturday wondering if another trip to urgent care was warranted. I never know. This is something they don’t teach you.
Saturday ended with his little warm body slung over my shoulder, his little hands reaching up to try to circle my neck as he slid away into the crib and I tip-toed out of his room, exhausted.

I spent Saturday wishing someone would hit me over the head with a blunt object and knock me out so I could sleep off feeling so utterly miserable with the worst cold I’ve ever had.
I’m better today and really glad I don’t have a big bump on my head. : D
