Good things.

JANUARY 20102

Sprout took his first steps on my birthday! He’s been venturing out into the wide expanse of floor ever since and it melts me every single time I plunk him down on his little feet and he makes his way towards me hesitantly, grinning ear to ear. I wish you could all meet this kid. I am so smitten with him. I know that’s all I ever say about him–but it’s so true. He’s so easy going and funny and laid back. When he makes it all the way to me he throws his arms around my neck and practically gnaws my cheeks off with drooly kisses and seriously: MELT.

Also: in the middle of making carrot muffins yesterday afternoon as a snow whirled past the windows the phone rang and it was the Red Hen Press calling! To tell me I won the June 09 Short Fiction Contest judged by Judith Freeman . AWESOME.

And: I am thisclose to launching my KICKSTARTER project. It’s so exciting. I’m up to the gills in creativity, which makes me very happy indeed. My only barrier: TIME. I’m hoping I’ll have it up tomorrow. Stay tuned.

+ + +
Tomorrow I want to share a bunch of links with you of beautiful blogs and good things I’ve been eating & reading and enjoying for the past couple of days… And I’d love to hear about your favorites right now: what magazine do you love to read? What do you love to have for breakfast? What is one thing you’re going to do this week that you’re a little scared of doing? (That’s right. Commit to that last one.)

xoxo!

Oh, congratulations on your short fiction news!!

And what is it about these second sons of ours? The Boychen owns a corner of my heart nobody else has access to, and on my birthday he said his first “love you mama.”

I am so happy for you, winning an award and all! I clicked around but couldn’t find it, that made me sad. I am sure it is fantastic–all of your writing is fantastic :)

I can’t believe that little baby of yours is WALKING already, time flies. Wasn’t he just BORN? Amazing.

I am not a very good magazine reader. I don’t subscribe to any. I think I read blogs in place of Magazines. So. I don’t really have a favorite. I impulsively buy Real Simple every once in a while, and Oprah’s Magazine. But that is when I am in the grocery store and something catches my eye in line. Any suggestions?

My favorite breakfast is an egg bake, or Chocolate Chip scones. I usually have a sweet and salty breakfast bar though.

Tomorrow morning I have to go and sit with my dad while my mom has surgery. That is my scary thing for the week.

I did my scary thing yesterday. Public speaking. Terrifying. I am actually just about to blog about it.

Congratulations on your short fiction prize! Your writing is beautiful.

I subscribe to the New Yorker but i’m intrigued by a new bi-monthly magazine I just ordered… Afar… their website states their mission is “to inspire and guide those who travel the world seeking to connect with its people, experience their culture, and understand their perspectives.” http://www.afar.com/

My favorite breakfast when I’m short on time is coffee and a banana nut muffin from a local coffee shop in my neighborhood or yogurt and granola. When I have time though it is italian sausage from the organic butcher and a scrambled egg and spinach dish my boyfriend makes and cream biscuits (recipe from http://www.smittenkitchen.com) drizzled with honey.

I have a few things at work on my to do list that I’ve been procrastinating – i guess dreading possible reactions from others more than scared – but I’m committed to getting them over with this week.

    Congratulations! WOW!!!

I LOVE reading Bust Magazine – it’s part childish, part liberating, part badass and 100% enjoyable.

I LOVE omelets and bagels with lox almost more than any other food…and I have them a few times a week…but what I regularly ACTUALLY eat is a half bowl of Fibre 1, a handful of nuts and some chopped fruit.

I am going to send a briefing note to the Premier’s Office (for the Province)…I have done the work, have the support and feel confident that I can’t get into trouble ,it’s more a “here’s some additional info”…but somehow it still scares me shitless!

favorite breakfast: toasted ciabatta or bagel w/cream cheese and seedless grapes with a glass of V8

scary thing for the week: getting on the scale at WW tomorrow…I’ve been baaaaaaaaad. Drrr.

What a cutie! I adore that age. And congrats on the award… I’m quite certain you deserve it!
My favorite mags usually involve travel and my breakfast usually consists of some sort of high fiber cereal, though I’d be happier with an omelet every morning… ahhh the joys of aging :)

She is just so laid back, happy, delightful,
sensitive and endearing. She had to be easy and pleasant
after having my first one be seriously IMPOSSIBLE & DIFFICULT! I LOVE these pix! what a cutie!

magazine I love to read: OPRAH
breakfast: bagel or sandwich thin, toasted w/ pb and a banana and glass of skim milk!

one thing I am going to do this week that I don’t want to do and am afraid I won’t accomplish is working out every single day without fail and also trying to do 20 minutes of strength training per day too. so very hard for me! still trying to knock off the same 30lbs for the last 10 years and am sooooooo afraid of failing, that I always give up right when I have the last 10 to go. do NOT want to do that this year! tara
sorry I left 2 posts when I realized I hadn’t answered your questions!

okay.. so on to the game:)

Congratulations on the short fiction! That’s celebration-worthy for sure!

No magazines, though I do have a thumbed-over copy of Italian Vogue somewhere around here.

I love all kinds of things for breakfast, but my standard daily fare is homemade granola topped with yogurt and fruit. Oh yes, and let’s not forget the cappuccino (which I usually embellish with cocoa, caramel sauce, or vanilla extract).

And in light of the fact that diving back into a horrible bog of a paragraph is so scary I’ve avoided it all week, I suspect that’s what I should be doing. 6:30 tomorrow morning. Bring it.

Congratulations on your contest win! What great news. :)

Magazines I love to read: The Sun, The New Yorker, Vogue, Town & Country, National Geographic.

Favorite breakfast: A vanilla latte and a chocolate croissant fresh from the bakery.

I am always scared to submit writing. You’ve inspired me and I will submit something to a journal this week!

Yay for the award! Congrats Christina! Is it a story I know? So well deserved.

I don’t really have a favorite magazine. I used to love Simple Scrapbooks, but they are sadly gone now.

Favorite breakfast is bagel, cream cheese, lox & capers. Don’t get to have that very often, so instead I have a bagel & salmon flavored cream cheese with capers. Yum!

Not sure what I’ll do this week that scares me. Still thinking. Sadly, procrastination is a gift of mine.
