one of those days

Today I left my keys on the roof of my car dropping Bean off at school and spent the better part of an hour looking for them in the parking lot in the slick mud with Sprout on one hip…. one of those mornings (not enough coffee+ not enough sleep + feeling kind of sick = not that much fun.)
Looking for small pleasures today… Like the yummy salad my friend made me for lunch: roasted eggplant, red onion, zucchini and pepper with goat cheese & mixed greens. Mmmm! Thanks K!)… and like this photo…and this awesome music.
What’s making you smile today?

That is awful about your keys. Bad enough if you were by yourself, but WITH A BABY. I am glad you found them, and glad that your day is looking up! My dog is making me smile today. He has been nervous since the thunder yesterday so he is my shadow.

What is making me smile today? The dog snoring beside me, the cat stretched across the ottoman an arms reach away, the fact that it’s Friday and I have the next three days off, laundry is almost all caught up, and my sons daughter will be born at any time now.

Didn’t you think for a few seconds to just replace the keys? I would have struggled with that option…& then realized the pain in the a** that would be & look for them, too. Glad you found them–your silver lining, right? What’s making me smile? Hm. Not a super-duper great day, so… Someone I met recently made a very encouraging comment that made me feel really wonderful–appreciated, liked. It made me feel delighted-that’s really the right word, I think. Delighted and confident & worthy. Nice.

Iced coffee in a glass jar, chocolate-covered sunflower seeds, that I’m ahead in homework, the warm weather, friendship bracelets, the view over Uris

Elegance and grace are usually the first of my abilities to fly out the window on those days… today being one. Regardless, I’m smiling over Flight of the Conchords re-runs, afternoon sunlight dyeing the laundry gold, mint chocolate brownies, and my husband walking in the door to magically make everything better (aka concoct something alcoholic for me while he wrangles the girls into their pajamas).

Small pleasures are often the best pleasures. Today I am happy to feel the sun on my face. The weather is beautiful and the days are getting longer. These are the things that make me smile.
