Wekend Notes: The violet hour

The light a few days ago was just so lovely. It was the violet hour; just at dusk when the shadows are long and the hills purple. You can feel the way the earth is tilting now, closer toward the sun. The days are lengthening, even as snow falls from pale skies. Most days the roads are mud, not frost. And when we take walks we can see the slender maple buds are growing fat. It’s time for cutting forsythia and carrying it indoors by the armload, to plunge into warm water and then arrange in jars on sunny window sills, to find in a few days time the promise of the season to come, bursting yellow and delicate from every stalk.
Plans for the weekend: Riding the lifts and maybe making pumpernickel bread. Also thesis reading, and making a mobile for my dearest friend’s new baby boy. Did you see I updated my current crushes & inspiration? I’d love to hear… What are your plans for the weekend? And also: what music are you listening to lately?

I am totally ignoring your questions to say: OH, YOUR BOOK LOOKS AMAZING! I just noticed it sitting there on the side, all nonchalant. And it is available for pre-order!! That is so excellent Christina! I can’t believe it is here (almost). It was about this time of year when you took the plunge in the first place, and now…it is REALLY happening. I am so proud that I was able to witness this birth. And I am so proud of what you accomplished. I really hope YOU are proud too! You should be! xoxo

Thank you Meg!
I’m grinning. So excited it’s available for pre order (tell all your friends!) and that I’ll be graduating so very soon and will finally be able to focus on finishing the Kickstarter rewards and other lovely things I’ve been wanting to work on for so long…

Plans for the weekend? Since my family left this morning for 6 days…napping, reading, unhindered clutter-cleaning, possibly pansy planting, brie & crackers
What I am listening to? Hrm. Nothing new. I need some inspiration in that department myself!

Celebrating my little one turning 7. He is having his first sleepover tonight. The boys are eating candy on ice cream, giggling, playing with balloons, rolling around in sleeping bags, whispering in the dark. Tomorrow having some of his friends join us at the pool to play. Celebrating. Your weekend sounds lovely…and these images capture the violet hour well.

Your images are lovely, and your words are even lovelier!
This weekend, for me, is spent lying on the couch recovering from pneumonia (and maybe valley fever; we are waiting for test results) and watching my littlest play basketball. I watch basketball, then go home and recover.
Sounds horribly dull. I’m anxious to feel better and get back out to my studio, and you’re inspiring me…
